Spar Alloa Road smashes £60k delivery month as annual online sales hit £350K

Spar Alloa Road has broken the £60,000 monthly sales barrier on rapid grocery delivery after a record December performance accelerated growth at the family-run convenience store.

The store, operated by Asiyah and Jawad Javed, generated £63,424 in online sales from 2,830 orders in December alone and acquired 349 new customers during the month, as delivery continued to gain momentum locally.

Across 2025, Spar Alloa Road grew Snappy Shopper sales by almost 120% year-on-year, reaching £350,000 in annual delivery revenue, up from £160,000 in 2024.

Jawad said: “The growth we’ve seen has been huge. In December alone, we broke the £60,000 in online sales barrier for the first time. That level of growth came down to strong offers, great prices and the fact that customers genuinely love a bargain.”

With an average order value of £30 in December, delivery has shifted beyond top up shops, with many customers now ordering multiple times a week.

“We have customers who rely entirely on our Snappy Shopper app. Some order two or three times every week,” Jawad added. “Many of them can’t travel easily, so the delivery service is essential for them.”

Spar Alloa Road operates across Falkirk, Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Grangemouth, Camelon and Airth, with delivery now embedded into daily operations. The store also services the local hospital, delivering directly to wards up to six times per day.

“We’re delivering to the hospital around six times a day,” Jawad said. “Even on a quiet week, hospital deliveries alone can generate £400 to £500. It’s not easy, hospital deliveries take time and effort, but it’s worth it because people rely on us.”

The retailer credits promotional activity and platform functionality as key drivers of demand: “Snappy contributes heavily towards promotions and that makes a big difference,” Jawad said. “Some of the deals are crazy, in a good way. They drive a lot more orders and we love being busier.

“There are days when products sell out because demand is so strong and I’m often running to the cash and carry so we can deliver these deals to customers.”

He also highlighted the platform’s technology as a competitive advantage. “Compared to other platforms, Snappy is much easier to use. The biggest difference is the technology. The use of images on our menu makes a massive impact. Using a proper database for images and product information really sets Snappy apart.”

Despite the strong commercial performance, Jawad says community impact remains central to the business. The store regularly provides food parcels throughout the year and was previously recognised with a Pride of Britain award for donating more than £100,000 worth of food and medical support since the Covid pandemic.

“This shop isn’t just a business to us,” he said. “It’s about supporting the people around us, whether that’s through everyday essentials or helping families when they need it most.”

Looking ahead, Jawad believes rapid delivery will become increasingly critical for independent retailers.

“Online shopping is only going to keep growing, the shift is happening,” he said. “Snappy Shopper helped us get ahead of that change instead of reacting too late. For independent retailers like us, platforms like Snappy aren’t just helpful, they’re vital for long-term survival.”
