Snappy Shopper recognises community champion retailers this Christmas

As part of the delivery service’s ’Tis the Snappy Season campaign, Snappy Shopper awarded three retail partners with a Snappy Shopper Community Champion Award, alongside a £200 donation to a local charity of their choice, in recognition of the difference they make beyond the shop floor.

With Christmas continuing to be a difficult time for many households across the UK, the initiative shines a light on retailers who are not only serving their customers day to day but actively stepping up to provide additional support within their communities.

The three retailers recognised as Community Champions are SPAR Condorrat, Premier One Stop Shop, Methil, and Bourtreehill Supermarket.

SPAR Condorrat first opened its doors to the Cumbernauld community more than 52 years ago and is now one of the longest serving independent SPAR retailers in Scotland. The store has partnered with Snappy Shopper for over two years, offering quick, local delivery to customers in the area.

Store owner Wendy Stephen is currently leading an initiative to provide LifeVac choking rescue kits to schools, nurseries and care homes across the region. Her £200 donation will fund three additional LifeVac kits, extending the reach of the project and helping to protect even more people locally.

Wendy said: “We’re incredibly proud to receive this Community Hero Award and the funding to purchase additional LifeVac kits for more schools and community settings across North Lanarkshire. We’re extremely grateful to Snappy Shopper for supporting this initiative and helping us continue work that could genuinely save lives. It’s an honour to be a part of LifeVac and we care deeply about the impact it has on keeping our community safe.”

Premier One Stop Shop in Methil was also recognised for its ongoing commitment to supporting local families and young people.

Store owner Faz Latif is a well-known community figure who regularly goes out of his way to help those around him. During school holidays, Faz has provided free snacks for children, while during term time he offers free water and fruit outside the store for pupils finishing school.

Faz has chosen Bethany Christian Trust to receive his £200 donation, supporting the charity’s work with people affected by homelessness.

The final retailer recognised was Bourtreehill Supermarket, a Day-Today store based in Irvine, Ayrshire.

Sitting at the heart of its village community, the store provides a range of vital services in an area where many local shops have closed or moved away. Store owner Imran Ali operates a daily free basket filled with food-to-clear items, allowing customers to take what they need while also reducing waste.

In addition, Imran regularly sponsors local football teams, scout groups and charity initiatives, embedding community support into the day-to-day running of the store.

Imran selected Ayrshire Cancer Trust to receive the £200 donation, supporting vital local cancer services.
