Snappy Shopper donates £500 of pet food and groceries to Give a Dog a Bone community hubs this Christmas
A Scottish animal charity tackling loneliness and supporting pet owners through difficult times has received a festive boost from quick-delivery app Snappy Shopper.
This December, Snappy Shopper donated more than £500 worth of pet food, toys, treats and essential groceries to Give a Dog a Bone, supporting its community hubs in Shawlands and Dunfermline during the busy Christmas period.
Give a Dog a Bone is a Scottish charity that helps combat loneliness among older people while supporting animal rehoming, by enabling over-60s to afford a rescue pet companion. The charity also operates welcoming community hubs where people of all ages can enjoy companionship, a free cup of tea and time with trained dogs, as well as access vital pet food banks.
The donation forms part of Snappy Shopper’s 12 Days of Christmas campaign, which focuses on giving back to the local communities and customers the app serves.
Jackie, from Give a Dog a Bone’s Shawlands hub, said: “Give a Dog a Bone was set up to help people who would really benefit from having a pet but simply can’t afford the costs involved. Loneliness and isolation are huge issues, particularly for older people, and animals can make such a difference.
“At all of our community spaces, anyone who is struggling to feed their pet can pop in and ask for food, no questions asked. Donations like this are incredibly important at this time of year, when so many people are under pressure.”
Founded in 2013 by Louise Russell, Give a Dog a Bone supports older adults with rescue pet adoption costs and runs four community spaces across Scotland: Shawlands, Dunfermline, Troon and Alloa. This year alone, the hubs have welcomed around 25,000 visitors.
Each space is open five days a week and offers a safe, friendly environment for anyone seeking companionship, conversation and support.
Nicole Stokes, Senior Marketing Manager at Snappy Shopper, said: “Many of our customers are proud pet owners who regularly shop for their furry friends through the Snappy app, so supporting a charity like Give a Dog a Bone felt like a perfect fit.
“As part of our 12 Days of Christmas campaign, we wanted to give back to local communities, especially at a time of year that can be really tough for many. We hope this donation helps pet owners and allows the charity to continue the incredible work they do.”
Louise Russell, founder of Give a Dog a Bone, added: “This is a really kind and thoughtful donation. We see a lot of people coming into our hubs for pet food, and this will be hugely helpful over the festive period. Our spaces are open to everyone, whether you’re popping in for a cuppa, a chat or even a free doggy cuddle.”
