Luton community hero recognised this Christmas by Snappy Shopper and Nisa Local Marsh Farm
A much-loved community volunteer from Luton has been honoured this Christmas after being nominated as a local hero by Nisa Local Marsh Farm.
David Crean MBE, a well-known figure in the Luton community, was surprised with a festive gift hamper from quick delivery app Snappy Shopper, after retailer Barry Patel at Nisa Local Marsh Farm put his name forward for the campaign.
David, who has 17 grandchildren, has dedicated nearly three decades to supporting his community. From organising Christmas dinners for the elderly, to fundraising for family days out and dressing as Santa for local schools, David is widely regarded as someone who lifts others up, often quietly, and without expecting anything in return.
Barry from Nisa Local Marsh Farm said: “Our community hero is David Crean. He’s our unsung hero. He does a lot of charity work and I’d like to recognise him even further.”
During the Covid pandemic, David distributed 2,000 Christmas parcels and his lifelong commitment to helping others has even earned him an MBE.
David’s journey into volunteering is deeply personal. He said: “I have been blessed with 17 grandchildren. I’ve been a community volunteer since 1996. I lost my daughter when she was 6 years old and the community was absolutely fantastic to me and I wanted to give back and the only way, and best way, is from the heart.
“It’s community spirit and that’s what we need more of.”
To mark his decades of dedication, Snappy Shopper and Nisa Local Marsh Farm gifted David a large festive hamper packed with food, treats for his grandchildren and a centrepiece Christmas ham, chosen to help bring his family together during the festive season.
The recognition forms part of Snappy Shopper’s 12 Days of Christmas campaign, which celebrates individuals and retailers across the UK who make a meaningful difference in their local areas.
A spokesperson for Snappy Shopper said: “David embodies everything that makes local communities special. Retailers like Nisa Local Marsh Farm sit at the heart of their neighbourhoods and it’s people like David who keep that sense of community alive. We’re proud to recognise him this Christmas.”
Snappy Shopper makes it easy to get groceries, drinks and household good delivered from store to door in as little as 30 minutes, all while supporting local stores. The Snappy Shopper app is available to download from Google Play and Apple App Store.
